What is bodyART?
Based on the theory of the five elements of traditional Chinese medicine and the yin-yang principle, bodyART® is a holistic program that combines exercises inspired by yoga, qigong, martial arts, medical gymnastics, dance, shiatsu, coordinated with special breathing techniques. It is a complete system, a conscious training to the same extent of the body and the mind.
Robert Steinbacher, the creator of bodyART, initiated this project in 1994, while working in a center for children with special needs. This experience that helps people discover the joy of movement and regain control over their own body, enriched by his passion for choreography, gave birth to the western, active, “yang” component of the bodyART program. He was later joined by Alexa Le, practitioner of yoga, qigong, shiatsu and Esalen massage, who through all these therapeutic forms from Asian culture and through her feminine presence completes the concept, bringing the “yin” side to it.
In a bodyART program you will find therapeutic, balance, strength and awareness exercises, combined with stretching and relaxation techniques, in a manner in which the spine and joints are protected. This type of exercise, coordinated with the rhythm of breathing, favors the awareness of the body, but also of the surrounding space, develops ways of communication, but also of liberation, presenting multiple positive effects for the balance of man, seen as a unit between body, mind and soul. The relaxing music is in turn a background for the fluidity of the movements and contributes, along with the techniques themselves, to the well-being of the participants.
